Thin Tally at Tidewatch Crossing

≈ 4 min

On the morning of 22 September 2026, Tidewatch Ferry Line operations manager Sylvie Brandt ran a routine reconciliation of the day's first two sailings. The cash in the gangway strongbox was £34.00 short of the total logged by the PortCount terminal — a gap the line says can only arise if fares were taken but not entered. Remy Okafor, the sole attendant on both sailings, denies any wrongdoing and says the shortfall is the result of a terminal glitch. Three other people were present or nearby during those sailings. The jury must decide whether Remy Okafor deliberately pocketed fare money, and identify whose account, taken with the evidence, settles the matter.

Subject

Remy Okafor, fare-box attendant on the 07:00 and 07:30 Tidewatch-to-Colmoor sailings

Charged with Fare-box skimming — pocketing cash fares without entering them into the PortCount terminal during the morning sailings of 22 September 2026

The scene

Tidewatch Harbour Ferry Line, a commuter service running between Tidewatch Pier and Colmoor Wharf across a busy estuary channel, present day. Each sailing has one fare-box attendant who logs every cash payment and travel-card scan into a PortCount handheld terminal at the gangway before passengers board.

The witnesses

  • Sylvie Brandt — Tidewatch Ferry Line operations manager
  • Remy Okafor — Fare-box attendant, defendant
