Privacy Notice

Last updated: 1 July 2026 · Daily Edition

Your privacy matters to us. This notice explains what Daily Edition collects, why, and what control you have over it. It covers both of our games — Daily Casefile and Daily TinyQuest. The short version: you can play every day with no account and no personal data at all. The only personal data we ever hold is an email address, and only if you choose to sign up for a daily reminder.

1. Information we collect

  • Email address (optional). If you sign up for a daily reminder, we store your email so we can send it. Signup is double opt-in — you must confirm the address before we send anything — and you can unsubscribe at any time from the link in every email.
  • Gameplay events. When you play, we record anonymous events — which case or adventure, whether you solved or finished it, your score, how many hints you used, and the format. These are not tied to your identity; we use them to see which puzzles land and to fix ones that don’t.
  • Approximate location and network signals. Our host derives a two-letter country code and a transient IP signal at the edge. We use these to count daily visitors in aggregate and to protect the sites from abuse. We do not build a profile of you or store your full IP address as part of the gameplay record.

2. On-device storage

Your streak, progress, and which cases or adventures you’ve played are kept in your browser’s local storage on your own device. That data stays on your device and is not sent to us. Clearing your browser storage resets it.

3. How we use your information

  • To send a daily reminder, if you asked for it.
  • To understand which puzzles work, measure aggregate traffic, and improve the games.
  • To keep the sites secure and prevent abuse.

We do not use this data to identify individual players beyond delivering the email you signed up for, and we do not use it for advertising or unrelated marketing.

4. Legal basis for processing

Under the UK GDPR and GDPR, we rely on:

  • Consent — for storing your email and sending the reminder. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
  • Legitimate interests — for anonymous gameplay analytics and security, which we keep to the minimum needed to run the sites.

5. Cookies and tracking

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers, and we do not sell data or run profiling. Any analytics we keep are anonymised and used only to understand traffic and gameplay.

6. Data retention

  • Email addresses are kept only while you are subscribed. Unsubscribe and the address is removed from our sending list.
  • Gameplay and traffic data are stored in aggregate to track trends over time and are not linked to your identity.

7. Data sharing

We do not sell or share your information for others’ marketing. Data is shared only with the service providers we need to run the sites (below), and only for that purpose.

8. Third-party services

9. International data transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States and the European Economic Area. Where that happens, we rely on our providers’ safeguards for international transfers.

10. Your rights

Under the UK GDPR and GDPR, you may have the right to:

  • Access the information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Ask us to delete your data where applicable.
  • Withdraw consent at any time for anything based on consent.

To exercise any of these, email us at hello@dailycasefile.com.

11. Children's privacy

Daily Edition’s games are family-friendly, but they are not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. The only personal data we ever collect is an optional email address for the reminder.

12. Who runs these sites

Daily Casefile and Daily TinyQuest are part of Daily Edition. For any privacy question or request, contact us at hello@dailycasefile.com.
