On the morning of Friday 22 August 2026, Dale Osman filed a complaint with fair director Bette Marsh alleging that his handwritten recipe card for a spiced-apple butter cake — left in the shared cold pantry the previous evening — had been copied and re-entered by Loretta Finch. Finch's entry, submitted at 08:15, uses an ingredient list and method that Osman claims is identical to his own. Finch insists she has baked this recipe every year for over a decade and can prove it predates Osman's entry entirely. The jury must decide whether Finch stole Osman's recipe or whether she independently holds a prior claim to the method.
