On the night of 18 July 2026, lead soprano Celeste Farrow suffered a sudden and severe coughing fit during the interval of the Garland Opera House's summer gala, rendering her unable to continue. Her personal humidifier — kept on the dressing-room shelf — was found to contain fine talcum powder mixed into the water reservoir. Understudy Miriam Voss stepped in to complete the performance. The prosecution argues that Voss, passed over for the lead role three seasons running, saw her chance and spiked the humidifier before the show. The defence maintains Voss was never alone in Farrow's dressing room and that the contamination has an innocent explanation. The jury must decide whether the evidence establishes Voss's guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
