The Borrowed Brushstroke
≈ 4 min
On the evening of 14 June 2026, a nineteenth-century oil painting titled 'Harbour at Dusk' went missing from the Caldwell Gallery's storage room. The gallery's head curator discovered the absence the following morning. Prosecution alleges that Marcus Hale, who held a key to the storage room and was present that evening for a private inventory session, removed the painting for personal gain. The defence contends Hale never entered the storage room that night and that someone else had access. The jury must decide whether the evidence proves Hale guilty of theft beyond reasonable doubt.
