The Aiguille Dorée Funicular Hotel hosts a small research apiary maintained jointly by the hotel and the Haute-Vallée Entomological Society. The apiary occupies a railed terrace off the hotel's east wing, accessible through a gate from the main corridor and by a service door from the terrace stairwell. On the morning of Sunday 26 July 2026, head beekeeper Dr Sylvie Marchand arrived at 06:10 to conduct her weekly hive inspection and found three of the eight hives in disarray.
