The university botany department's amateur theatre group, the Caldwell Players, was two hours from opening night of their summer production when a stage technician discovered that four of the fly-tower counterweight ropes had been cut partway through and that two batten clamps had been deliberately loosened. No one was injured; the performance was cancelled as a precaution. Campus security has asked for a behavioural profile of whoever tampered with the rigging.
