The Weighing Room Wager
≈ 4 min
On a Tuesday in June 1958, clerk of the scales Reginald Poole reported that the official weight certificate for jockey Danny Farrow — clearing him to ride Copper Duchess in the third race — had been forged: Farrow's recorded weight was three pounds lighter than his true weight, which would have disqualified him. Race stewards suspect an inside job designed to keep the horse eligible after a last-minute oats binge. You are asked to reconstruct the exact sequence of events in the weighing room that morning to identify when and how the false certificate entered the record.
