The Dessert Tower Came Down in the Dark
≈ 6 min
At 8:52 PM a scheduled grid test cut power to Vantage Nine for ninety seconds. When the emergency lights came up, the restaurant's centrepiece — a two-metre croquembouche built for the Harvest Lantern charity gala, its sugar scaffolding to be unveiled at nine — lay toppled across the service station, ruined. The gala organisers insist the collapse was no accident: someone loosened the dowel that held the tower, trusting the blackout to hide the push.
