Odalys & Sons opens at 6 AM, and the pride of the counter is the Founder's Wheel — a copper-and-brass baker's medallion won in 1949, hung on the shop's ceremonial peg for every grand-reopening morning. When the family gathered at 5:30 to hang the anniversary bunting, the medallion on the peg was a dull painted resin copy; the genuine article was gone. Somebody made the swap in the dark hours before dawn.
