Gone with the Tide
≈ 4 min
The MV Cormorant runs its 7:15 PM crossing from Tidemill Quay to Saltbridge every evening, carrying commuters and day-trippers across the estuary. Halfway through tonight's twenty-minute run, passenger Nora Cresswell turned around and her eight-year-old rescue whippet, Pepper, had vanished from the open-air stern deck. The dog's lead was still clipped to the bench railing, slipped from the harness — but Pepper herself was nowhere aboard. Crew members have confirmed the dog did not go overboard; Pepper was found, unharmed, locked in the crew luggage locker below decks. Someone moved her there.
Subject
Pepper
A brindle whippet, eight years old, wearing a teal canvas harness embroidered 'PEPPER' in white thread. Calm by nature but easily led with treats. Found unharmed in the crew luggage locker with a half-eaten biscuit on the floor beside her.
The suspects
- Rowan Tully — Ferry deckhand, evening shift
- Adaeze Obi — Commuter, regular evening passenger
- Milo Ferris — Retired harbour pilot, frequent recreational passenger
- Bette Crane — Saltbridge-side café owner, heading home after a supply run
