On the evening of July 4th, a rare 19th-century entomology specimen — the Gilded Wing butterfly, valued at $400,000 — vanished from its locked display case in the East Gallery. The museum's head curator, Dr. Opal Vance, discovered the theft at 9:15 PM during a routine closing walkthrough. Security footage from the gallery camera was mysteriously overwritten between 7:45 PM and 8:30 PM.
