The Furnace Bloom Note
≈ 6 min
When apprentice glassblower Tomás Vreede arrived to open the studio on Thursday morning, he found the annealing room logbook knocked from its shelf and a folded slip of paper tucked inside an unfinished cobalt vase, wedged snugly between two cooling racks. The note was written in block capitals and made no sense to Tomás — but someone had clearly wanted it found.
The scene
Glassblowing workshop, Fenwick & Sons Hot Glass Studio — the annealing room behind the main furnace floor, where finished pieces cool slowly on iron racks and a battered logbook records every piece signed out.
