The Burgee Cipher
≈ 6 min
When sailing instructor Bex Colm arrived to post the morning's wind forecast, she found the race chart stripped of its pin flags and a narrow strip of signal-order paper folded under the tide-glass. Someone had been in the annexe before dawn, and whoever it was left only a coded strip behind.
The scene
Yacht club regatta office — the cramped scoring annexe at Portavel Sailing Club, where coloured burgees hang from a timber rail above a cork-pinned race chart, and a tide-glass sits on the windowsill beside a jar of signal flags
