The Frequency Ghost
≈ 4 min
Overnight calibration engineer Suki Brandt arrived at Harken Ridge at 05:30 to find the spectrum plotter running an unscheduled sweep and a folded strip of chart paper tucked under the signal-log clipboard, its edges still warm from the printer head. The strip carried a short handwritten message in block capitals, written over the faint ink traces of a radio-frequency graph.
The scene
Radio telescope control room, Harken Ridge Observatory — the main console floor where rack-mounted receivers hum beside a paper chart plotter and a bank of spectrum-analysis screens, all bathed in the blue glow of standby indicators
