The Barometer Breaks

4 min

Overnight observer Dani Skov arrived at Greyhorn Peak's instrument room at first light to swap out the barograph paper and found the fresh roll still sealed in its tube — and a folded note wedged beneath the brass barometer weight, its edges damp from condensation. The note was not in the station log, and the previous shift had already departed down the cable car.

The scene

Summit weather station, Greyhorn Peak — the instrument room where barographs, anemometers, and paper chart rolls are maintained by a rotating crew of four meteorologists
