The Commodore's Crossed Flags
≈ 4 min
On the morning of the final regatta race, race officer Peg Dunn arrived to find the master scoring ledger balanced open on its spine and a folded note tucked beneath the bronze starting-gun weight. The note is written in a hand no one in the club will claim, and the day's results cannot be certified until someone makes sense of it.
The scene
Seacroft Yacht Club Regatta Office — the race committee's scoring table inside the clubhouse, where printed start sheets and protest forms are clipped to a corkboard above a battered oak desk
