The Bale Marks of Jardine House

≈ 4 min

Jardine, Liang & Co. dispatched a consignment of raw silk bales aboard the river steamer Yangtze Princess from Shanghai to Hankow on 14 September 1934, and Mr. Percival Soames filed a consignment manifest to support the firm's transit insurance claim. The Shanghai Silk Exchange has asked its verification committee to check the manifest against warehouse and transfer records before approving the insured valuation. Six bale entries appear in the manifest; the committee must determine whether any bale serial recorded by Soames belongs in fact to another party's consignment rather than to Jardine, Liang & Co.

Jardine, Liang & Co. trading firm, Shanghai International Settlement, autumn 1934
