The Cocoon Register of Yamashiro Filature

4 min

Yamashiro Silk Filature submits a cocoon purchase and yield record to the Gunma Prefectural Silk Industry Office each season, which uses the figures to calculate the government-subsidised advance payments owed to the filature for raw-silk output. Clerk Noboru Hayashi has filed the record for the summer 1885 season, covering four separate cocoon lot purchases and two reeling-yield entries. The Prefectural Office's inspector has noticed that at least one entry appears inconsistent with the independent records held by the prefecture's weighing station, the transport register, and the filature's own correspondence. You are asked to identify which line of the filed record is incorrect and which reference document reveals the error.
